Where are they used?
The Italian plug is mainly used in Italy, including Sicily, Sardinia, Elba and the Aeolian islands. It is also used in the enclave microstates of San Marino and the Holy See / Vatican City. Because of the Italian relationship with the then Empire of Abyssinia in the 18th and 19th centuries, Italian plugs are also used in modern day Ethiopia; the other African countries historically part of the Italian Empire are Libya and Tunisia, who use the Italian plug along with European type.
Chile Chile is quite rare in South America to have standardised on only one plug type, and they chose to use the CEI23-50 Italian type. It is also specified in Norma Chileana Nch 2027 and approval is by SEC (Superintendencia de Electricidad y Combustibles); however we can currently only offer Italian approvals on these, which are normally accepted in Chile. It is also one of the plug types approved for use in Uruguay.
