Richard Hirschmann (1894-1974) was a Swabian entrepreneur and philanthropist credited with the 1924 invention of the Bananenstecker or banana-plug. His company, Richard Hirschmann GmbH & Co., originally supplied telecommunications equipment, including transmitters and receivers, and was best known for their aerials and antennas manufactured in the outskirts of Stuttgart. The 1970s and 1980s saw large product diversification to include most of the range available today, including industrial connectors, multipole connectors, and test equipment. The 1990s and 2000s saw the addition of networking and automotive sectors, but fragmentation through acquisitions and specialisation means there are several companies using the Hirschmann name, across three owners and multiple markets. The majority of our parts are under the aegis of Belden.

Hirschmann GDM-series – DIN 43650

Rectangular connector for use in Pneumatic and hydraulic systems. The rectangular connectors of the DIN43650 GDM-series for hydraulic, pneumatic and electromagnetic actuators in all forms (type A/B/C) are well-equipped to handle the heavy stresses in the field.

Hirschmann ST Series

Rectangular connector for use in Power-supplies Compact rectangular connectors of the ST series prove their special strengths on the inside and outside of building automation systems, or as rectangular connectors for the mains current supply network.

Hirschmann Automotive or Hirschmann Austria was set up in Rankweil as Richard Hirschmann GesmbH. Originally supplying the same communication equipment as in Germany, in the 1980s they diversified into loudspeaker cables for automotive applications. Still based in Rankweil, they now have 7 factories and 5 sales offices in 10 countries, manufacturing contacts, connectors, sensors, and over moulded cable assemblies for use in vehicles
