In addition to our large comprehensive range of moulded IEC connectors, Morvan Trading also stock over 30,000 rewireable IEC plugs and connectors for next working day delivery.  This allows fully customisable mains cables to be made up using specific power cables or cable lengths in order to meet differing or specialist applications.

Rewireable IECs can be hand-assembled when pre-manufactured connectors are not the best solution.  This might be for small batches of non-standard leads, modifying or reworking existing leads to different specifications, or wiring on a connector after the cable has been passed through a small hole.

Contact our helpful sales team who will be happy to discuss various solutions and prepare quick and competitive quotations by return.  In order to provide stable prices and leadtimes, Morvan can hold stock on call-off and scheduled orders for larger quantities.  Most connectors are boxed in 25s and bulk packed in 1000s, but we can also break bulk if required.

All of Morvan Trading’s stock rewireable IECs are manufactured in Germany by Martin Kaiser GmbH to the highest quality standards, and are approved by VDE, the German test-house, and/or ENEC, the pan-European approvals body. We can also offer UL and/or CSA approved IECs for use in North America.

Our rewireable IECs use ‘screw-down’ internal connections, where the bared copper strands of the cable are put into the terminal which is then secured by a screw. These are more reliable and much easier to assemble than the ‘wrap-around’ type where the copper strands are wound around the screw.

Current rating
All IECs are rated up to 250 Volts AC, but are categorised by their current ratings.  To prevent potential overloading, they are designed to not be interchangeable between 10 Amps and 16 amps.

10 Amp IECs include the C13, C14, C15, C16, C15A, C16A, C17, C18. These may be up-rated by an approvals body to up to 15 Amps in North America for use at 125V.

16 Amp IECs are the C19, C20 and C21, which may be up-rated to 20A at 125V use.

The 2.5A C7 and C5 connectors are no longer permitted as rewireables, so please see our moulded IEC page for these as mains leads.

Temperature rating
Standard, cold, or cold condition IECs are rated to a maximum temperature of 70°C, taken at the pin contacts.  These are the C9, C13, C14, C17, C18, C19, C20.

10A IECs can be hot condition for use up to 120°C: the female C15 and C16.

The 16A goes straight to very hot condition at 155°C for the C21, and the 155°C 10A are the C15A and C16A.  The higher temperature IECs are made from heat resistant thermosetting plastic and have slightly modified profiles to prevent lower temperature rated connectors from being used.

Cable entry
All Morvan stock IEC connectors are straight as standard, but we also offer angled cable entry.  10A plugs and connectors are available as right angle, left angle and bottom angle, while the 16A versions can be right angle or left angle.
