IEC Inlets & Outlets

Panel mount inlets and outlets are fitted into the equipment case to supply power in or out: inlets C14, C16 and C20 for powering the equipment and outlets C13 and C19 for powering something else down stream.

The flange mount version (left column) has two screw holes to fix it to the chassis. The snap fit IEC version (right column) has plastic tabs that lock it into place (panel thicknesses 0.7mm – 3.5mm).

The IEC inlets and outlets come with spade terminals on the back; terminals are 4.8mm or 6.3mm and accept fastons, or can be soldered.

Exporting anywhere in the world? By standardising all products with a Morvan IEC C14, C20 or other inlet, the same piece of equipment can be sent to any country, with the correct detachable powercord for that country added at the last minute (see individual country pages). This saves having to stock products with hard-wired mainscables, or discovering a different plug is needed and having to change it.

The 10 Amp C14, C16 (120°C hot condition) and 16 Amp C20 inlets are a simple way to get power into the equipment. 10 Amp C13 and 16 Amp C19 outlets can be used to ‘piggyback’ one piece of equipment from another, for example powering a monitor off a computer.

Another use for outlets is power distribution, and has a row of outlets to power several pieces of IT equipment; these outlets may also have an equal or higher rated inlet in order to power them. The C13 and C14s may be known as Sheet F and Sheet E, and the C20 and C19 as Sheet K and Sheet L respectively.

Both the inlets and the outlets can be the snap-in type with clips that engage at panel thicknesses from 0.7mm to 3.5mm (right-hand column). These are easy to install but must have the correct panel thickness and are not easy to remove. The other option is flange mount with holes for two screws and can be retained by screws or nuts and bolts (left-hand column).

The terminals for connecting wire at the back of the unit can be 4.8mm or 6.3mm width (3/16 th or 1/4 inch), for push-on or fast-on terminals. The wire can also be soldered on, or extra retaining screws used to secure the wire. These panel mount IECs are manufactured in Germany by Martin Kaiser to the highest quality standards, and come with approval by VDE, the German approvals house, and/or ENEC, the European approvals body.

UL approved versions for use in North America at 125 Volts and possible higher current ratings are also available – contact us for details. The relevant standard is IEC60320, formerly IEC320.
